Lightning - Actionable Insights: How Much Research Is Enough?
A talk by Lynne Polischuik
UX and IA practitioners fight an uphill battle when it comes to getting buy-in for user research. Over and over we hear “It’s too expensive”, “There isn’t enough time”, or “How can a handful of people give us enough to be useful?”-but the truth is that research needn’t be endless or expensive in order to produce actionable results.
Often a little bit of research really is just enough, with even the most ‘guerrilla’-style approach providing insights that can make our design work easier and that much more impactful.
The trick is in interpreting your data, and seeing user research as part of a larger picture. This brief talk will highlight ways to build lightweight but effective research into your design process, as well as techniques for combining different data types in order to glean the rich insight into user behaviours, needs and goals that is so crucial to our work.
