The web you were used to is gone. Architecture and strategy for your content.

A talk by Alberta Soranzo

Numbers don’t lie. The way we’re accessing the internet has changed and there’s no going back. Mobile is rapidly becoming the platform of choice and for millions of people worldwide it is the only option available. The bottom line is that if people want to do something on the web, it’s guaranteed that that they are going to want to do it on mobile — be it perform a task or find information. However it is embarrassingly evident that the vast majority of mobile products are task-driven and little-to-no attention is paid to information retrieval and content.

Enter information architecture and content strategy. They are the foundation of any website but, when it comes to the mobile arena, they can literally mean life or death. That’s not to say that UI and interactions aren’t important, but he truth is that even the best-designed and well-engineered mobile products can still fail if their IA is not sound, and that’s because information architecture doesn’t only define the structure of content, but also determines how users will interact with it.

In this session we will take a look under the hood and learn how to structure content to make it adaptive, how to organize it to make it findable, what the specific challenges and opportunities of the mobile space are and how to create outstanding experiences that integrate seamlessly in a true cross-channel strategy.

After living in the US for 15 years, Alberta Soranzo moved back to Europe where she currently heads UX at Friday.

She specializes in the development of visual frameworks that support retrieval of complex bodies of information and the delivery of meaningful experiences across channels, platforms and devices.

Alberta also consults on strategy and IA for the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights and, distance notwithstanding, continues serving on the board of the Los Angeles User Experience Meetup.

She is adamant about simplicity, findability and making good things.

When Alberta is not spending time with her family or on a plane, you can usually find her on Twitter or playing ice hockey at a rink near you.

Notable skills: concision, irony and the best musical taste on the wrong right side of the Atlantic.

Also: mischief, the small things and the uncanny ability to get in trouble.
