Lightning - Half designer, half politician: working with the EU institutions

A talk by Clementina Gentile

Working as a UX and service designer for the EU institutions represented a challenge that went beyond design. Dealing with such a big, hierarchical and political organization required an additional set of skills and a different mindset.

The design process had to fit the convoluted set of bureaucratic procedures: the decision making process was sometimes slowed down by the hyper hierarchical organization and adoption across all the stakeholders was essential for the success of the project or even for the mere progress of the project itself.

In this light talk I will show some soft skills and tactics to survive a design project with the European institutions: Hopefully the suggestions will be valid for anyone working with a public political organization.
