My Amsterdam will provide citizens of Amsterdam with information about the status of their government processes, with pointers to places where they can influence them. It will also build integrated profiles; it’s an IA’s dream!

This year, an online service called Mijn Amsterdam (“My Amsterdam”) will be launched to provide citizens of Amsterdam with up-to-date information about the status of any processes they are undertaking with their local government. The collective statuses create a so-called integrated customer view that will also be used to allow civil servants to make better decisions for individual citizens as well as for the collective population.
The service aims to connect citizens and government, but also to connect many information systems and partial user profiles to created the integrated customer view; many might say it's an Information Architect's dream!
In the process of defining, designing, implementing and evaluating the service, the team — made up from designers & developers, a few civil servants responsible for citizen-facing contacts, and supporters from all over the city — has learned many valuable lessons that they documented as their “other” crucial deliverable.
In this presentation, I want to share some of those lessons that should be interesting for all designers of interactive systems aimed at a wide audience.

Peter Boersma has been an designer of interactive systems for over 20 years, and he has been thinking and presenting about organising design work almost as long. Since 2015, he serves as Online Product Owner for “my.amsterdam.nl”, a system that connects citizens with the local government.
Peter has given presentations and taught workshops at many national and international User Experience conferences, some of which he helped organise. Since 2001, he is the host of the Amsterdam UX Cocktail Hours.
EuroIA returns to Amsterdam, the city that in 2008 hosted probably the most successful and definitely the most well-attended of all EuroIA conferences.
EuroIA 2016 takes place at The Renaissance Hotel, in the heart of Amsterdam, within walking distance of the Amsterdam central train station and Amsterdam's main highlights.
