About Alistair Duff

Alistair S. Duff read philosophy at the Universities of London and Glasgow. He was a tutor in the politics department at Glasgow and then served as research officer at a non-profit NGO. Duff subsequently completed a master’s degree in information science and worked professionally in academic librarianship. In 1994, he became a doctoral researcher and lecturer in information management at Napier University (since renamed Edinburgh Napier University), where he is now research professor in information policy. Among other visiting appointments, he has been a summer-school lecturer at the University of Zurich and a visiting fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. He is the author of Information Society Studies (Routledge, 2000) and A Normative Theory of the Information Society (Routledge, 2012), as well as numerous articles in journals, encyclopaedias and newspapers. He is currently principal investigator on a UK Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project entitled Informing the Good Society: New Directions in Information Policy.
