Completed in 1921, and restored in 1998-2002, the Tuschinski Theatre is one of the most impressive cinemas every built in Europe. Combining a unique mixture of Art Deco and the Dutch Amsterdam School in architecture, Abraham Tuschinski created the masterpiece that will be home to hundreds of IAs from around the world on September 26-27 2008.
The main auditorium, with its elegant red-velour seats, has all the grandeur of an opera house. And we are working to install wireless internet. Back when the theatre also hosted stage shows, audiences were also treated to the artistry of Maurice Chevalier, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Dizzy Gillespie, Fats Domino, Dionne Warwick – and more recently, Al Gore came for the Dutch premier of “An Inconvenient Truth”. And this amazing venue is ours for a full two days!
The magnificent foyer (with its enormous mahogany bar) is ideal for chatting with your fellow IAs and checking out our sponsors’ booths. And on Friday evening, it will provide the setting for our first-ever IA Jam Session.
The Tuschinski is only a few metres away from Amsterdam’s famed Rembrandtplein and is within a short walk of dozens of reasonably priced hotels and restaurants.
